This work has a therapeutic starting point. I found myself in a creative block and all that would come out was drawings of brick houses without windows or doors. In the repetitive drawing of the bricks there was a sort of comfort, which I decided to take into a 3-dimentional development.
Bricks used to be the building blocks of which people in Western Society would build their homes. This stacking of bricks has been replaced by prefabricated concrete elements, which are often covered by other materials – such as a layer of bricks – to achieve a friendlier surface.
Another strong symbol in Western society is bread. It is a very recognizable element in a lot of lives, but also a Christian symbol of food in general. Bread goes through the same process as bricks before it can fulfill its purpose. The shared way of processing these materials made me merge the symbols by transferring the shape of the house to the bread and the slices of fake brick to the house.
Materials Used: wood, brick strips, lamp and bread
